I have been picking up various Little Golden Books for both of my grandchildren. I've been impressed with the wide range of books available compared to the number of titles I had for my kids.I'm also a fan of artist Joey Chou and have a number of his other children's books, so I was very pleased to find this new book by Mallory C. Loehr with his illustrations.I picked this book up for my granddaughter who is just two years old. While she is used to board books, I wanted something to transition her to paper books. This was the perfect book for that purpose.While many Little Golden Books are somewhat wordy (perfect for an older child like my four year old grandson), they are a little difficult to read to a younger child who has a shorter attention span. That is not the case with this book. At most, there is one sentence per page and often, there is only one short sentence that spans across two pages. This is the perfect amount of text for a younger age group.The unicorn in the book is adorable with its pink body and purpose hair. There are other unicorns in the book that are different colors as well as other animals and boys and girls not to mention a surprise addition of some forest gnomes. I'm really enjoying the book and will have a lot of fun reading it to my granddaughter for a few years.

We LOVE little golden books BUT I was very disappointed in how little content this book had, there is no story line. The pictures are cute but that’s just about it. I’ve seen baby books with more words then this one. I’ll definitely be reading more reviews before purchasing another little golden book.
I purchased this book for my daughter's first birthday, which is tomorrow. I have always loved unicorns and am fascinated by their legends. I am hoping that my daughter will share my interest. When I first saw the book, I was immediately drawn to the colors. The pastel blues, purples, and pinks are beautiful. The colors continue throughout the book in the cute, yet lovely illustrations.The phrases on each page are short, which makes this perfect for toddler aged children. It is not really a story about a particular unicorn, although there is one main unicorn pictured on each page, but more about unicorns in general (physical features, what they like to do, what their abilities are, etc). I think it's a great introduction to the mythology of the unicorn. I'm almost certain that my daughter will enjoy it, although, maybe not for another year or two. For now, she just likes flipping through the pages.
This is a cute book, but, it's definitely not the greatest story ever written, haha! My least favorite part? "My horn can clean water, it can heal a hurt"...huh? Not the best way to depict that the unicorn's horn is magical. While living in Asia, it was always funny to see poorly translated English. An example, my mom bought me an ashtray that read, "SMOKING TIME -PUFF A SMOKING!! BE CAREFUL TO OVER!!- While reading this book, that's the vibe that I got; as though it was written in another country. Clearly in English, but, poorly done. My neice won't be born until next month, but, if I had a kid, I wouldn't want to read them stories that say things like, "heal a hurt". Shouldn't books teach kids proper English? Just imagine a little one going to school, "Unicorns are real! They can heal a hurt!" Anyway, I saw a review where the person mentioned that the font was too customized, I agree with that. The swirly letters might be too much for a kid, similar to the confusion that comes once cursive writing is introduced. The font used in a children's book should just be simple, basic, clean...in my opinion.
My daughter is 2 1/2 and loves this book. We’re not really into unicorns in our house, but she was given a stuffed one so I bought this to go with it. Is the story going to make your kid a genius? Probably not, but it’s a Little Golden book for $3 so I took a chance. She likes listening to it and I like the part where the unicorns are playing hide-and-seek to make her think.
My 3 year old loves this book. It's a really cute book. The pictures are beautiful. She really likes looking at the pictures. It's a cute little story. So happy I bought it.
Perhaps this book is geared more towards the younger crowd, but I couldn't get my 4 year old to sit down once to read this book. I read it alone, and it's super LAME! I know it's a story about unicorns, but I expected a little better than this. I definitely would not recommend to purchase.
