I really have to start watching the size of what it is I am buying. I knew this book was hardcover, however, I didn't realize it weighs over 2 pounds. It's quite a big bruiser and rather a pain to lug around. Basically, this is a coffee table book. On the plus side, it is a great book with just so much history. The pictures are fantastic, especially the ones showing how mail was delivered to the rural areas. Be warned though that the history of the book only goes up to about 1985 which is too bad. I wish they had an updated version. A wonderful piece of history and a great read.
As a mid-level philatelist, this is a cool book on postal service history.
Billed as in good shape, but used hardback was quite warped and smelled like mildew. The content, however, is quite interesting. I gave it to my postal delivery person who loved it.
The book was in very good condition
I purchases this for my dad for father's day. He's a photographer now but his career was a mailman for 25 years. So this was perfect. I haven't read it myself but he says he loves it.
A fascinating read especially for someone with any connection to the Post Office. I can't believe it is still with us with the incredible mismanagement and the politics!
outstanding history
I ordered this book from Amazon as a Christmas present for an elderly man who spent his life working as a postman. My friend loved it, and I'm told it was passed around the nursing home and enjoyed by many; it now lives proudly on his coffee table. I was fortunate to be able to read it before I wrapped it, and I found it to be beautifully done. A great piece of Americana. Anyone with an interest in history will love this book.
