So much fun to read. The tone and delivery perfect: subtly irreverent, but gosh darn, you learn so much. We've had an uproarious time reading it around the dinner table. Our discussions do segue into what else was going on at that time or with such and such a character or industry, thanks to history major father. As the hopeful matriarch trying to get her kids focused on something else besides the Kardashians or World of Warcraft, this book so works for me.

I love the dark and dirty side of Philadelphia. The stories are very entertaining and keep the attention span. Fast read, but each story is its own entity. You can skip around and not miss anything.

It is interesting enough to know that Philadelphia, PA, had its seamy side from the latter 1700s to the latter 1900s, and to read of the details. But the author bores the reader with such an inundation of minutiae that one is forced to skim in order not to fall asleep.

This book is awesome. Philadelphia is a city that is rich in history with a lot of crazy happening here over the centuries. Thomas Keels does a great job sharing these stories.

I can say that I've enjoyed reading this book. I'm currently taking a class on film editing, and trying to take this up as a serious hobby. In The Blink Of An Eye is mostly just kicking back and listening to the author kind of ramble on about his editing experiences, and his thoughts on the process. What I think I got out of this book is some lore, and some vague ideas about how to approach editing, but very few specifics. The other thing that I got out of this book is an appreciation of how futile it is to try to learn film editing from a book. It is such a visual thing that even when he shows side by side still pictures in order to talk about a "cut", it's really impossible to visualize without seeing the full action.So I dunno, I recommend this book, it's not a waste of time. But if you are trying to "cram" for an upcoming film project or something like that, I think you'll be disappointed that you may not learn all that much that is immediately applicable.

I had just read a strange book written by an Italian during WWII and translated into English by this author, when someone said, "Have you read In the Blink of an Eye?" I couldn't believe it when she told me the name of the author. Anyway, yes, same guy.This is an amazing book, a quick read. I happen to be shooting video recently and used to teach film theory. Somehow this book got by me. It is a great book not only for people who make movies but for people who are really into movies. A nice companion to other film theory books. I would also recommend the book "Understanding Comics." That might seem random but the two forms share a lot of principles, something that can be appreciated when you consider the function of storyboarding.

This is a WONDERFUL account of the brilliance that Hollywood film editors create through their craft. More than anything else, you will gain an appreciation for the painstakingly complex artistic process carefully detailed by Walter Murch. Murch is a legend in the industry whose artistic brilliance shaped such epic works as Apocalypse Now, The Godfather and The English Patient. In the Blink of an Eye goes deeply into the artistic process as well as view into the tools used by Hollywood film editors. This is a very informative and insightful read.

An awesome read; full of interesting facts, opinions, trivia and pretty much every theory you need about film editing. Murch is a master in his craft, and everything he has to say about both analog and digital editing--although some info is oudated, since the 2nd edition was released way back in 2001--is invaluable. A must-read for anyone interested in film editing or filmmaking in general.

I suspect this book was worth five stars the day it was written but that's been a while. The author's editing experenences are very interesting and his theories on editing make the book worthwhile to anyone currently editing. Unfortunately, too much of the book is used to consider the pluses of continuing to work with mechanical editors and film as opposed to working with the earlier versions of editing software. The title refers to a suggested length of a cut, and the whole part of the book dealing with editing theory probably makes this books still worthwhile, especially at its current price.

This book isnt about editing techniques, its about what editing is, what editing can be and why we edit and it will make you look at editing as an experience and a process involving emotions rather than a technical process of cutting simply because it might be time to cut. ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT, IF YOUR INTERESTED IN DIRECTING THIS BOOK WITH HELP YOU IMPROVE THAT AS WELL!!! if you understand editing, when you set out to direct a scene for a show or a movie the understanding of how things cut together or can be cut together will inform your directing decisions, you will begin to think in montages and will direct with an understanding of all the different ways a scene can play out and the editor with thank you (and if you are editing you will thank yourself) for giving him choices.

I've read quite a few film books and the problem with a lot of them is that are no longer relevant in a few years because the industry is always changing. In this book, Walter Murch talks about editing film when you actually edited film but his focus is so much on the theory of editing that even in today's digital age it is relevant. This is the best book on filmmaking I've read, but I may be a bit biased because I am editor.

This guy is a pure genius! If you want to know how to think like an editor, it's a look into the mind of a great one. It's also a very quick read. You can finish this book in two days and if your fast, probably a day.

This is a fun read. First-person accounts of some of the great games in Chargers history from some of the greats on Chargers history. LT. Fouts. Etc. This would be a terrific Christmas gift.

Loved every minute of it! As a long time Chargers fan and more importantly a football fan, it was a great read of not only the behind the scenes game highlight, but a peak into the life of an NFL football player. Many surprises are in store for you and I recommend this for all people who have had the game of football and life in general impact them.

One of the best elements of a Jay Paris book or article, is that you will get humor, objectivity, and a deep knowledge of the subject that Paris is writing about.I grew up in San Diego from 1993 to 2007 as a child to a young adult, so many of the players in this book I saw in person or saw them play on live TV. This book was a serious trip down memory lane for me, that's one of the reasons why I quickly purchased this book on Amazon back on November 16, 2018.My favorite part of this book was the Craig Whelihan chapter, which was chapter 18. Whelihan was really candid on how he felt about Ryan Leaf, and how offensive coordinator Mike Sheppard and head coach Kevin Gilbride handled the whole Leaf and Whelihan quarterback situation.Granted, Whelihan wasn't really NFL starting quarterback material. But the Chargers didn't give him or Leaf a lot of offensive weapons. And on top of that, the Charger offensive lines from 1997 to 1998 weren't very good either-----88 sacks allowed from 1997 to 1998, and the Chargers rushed for an average of just 98 yards per game in that period.The main demographic that will enjoy and voraciously read this book would be old school Charger fans. I was never a Charger fan, I just studied them for a number of years. I've always been an Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders fan.Paris knows the histories of the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams. So if you want an education on those two franchises, then buy his books or read his old articles.

As a Charger and longtime Football fan, this book is a must read. The in depth interviews makes you feel as though your in the locker room with the legendary players. It took me back to key moments in Charger history and is a book that I didn't put down! Go Bolts!!

My 3 1/2 year old is really into art and cutting right now. I bought several cut and paste books for her to "fuel her interest". This one was my least favorite of the 4 I bought. This book is very thin (read: not many activities). All of the other cutting books had lines around what the kid is supposed to cut out, but not this one. There were several pages in this book that said "cut the apples" or "cut out the candles" with no dotted lines. I was not impressed by the abc portion either. Save your money and buy the Fun to Cut book by publications international (tons of activities and dotted lines to show where to cut!)

I am so glad I bought this book. Don't hesitate, just order it. It's full of various cut and paste activities, much more than other books I've purchased for the same amount of money.I'm a full time teacher (teens). When I visit my 4 and 5 year old grandchildren, I bring my tote bags full of fun (crayons, scissors, glue sticks, games, puzzles, flash cards, books, et al). They love cut & paste activities and have already gone through several books these past 18 months (since I started them on scissors). This book has all sorts of 'next level' as well as beginner cut & paste activities. Now that they have refined their cutting skills in prior books, they are ready for more and can do more which this book provides.For example, we played 'take nana to lunch' with the pizza and dollar cut outs. They cut out the tray, the slices, toppings, and dollars (all circles and straight lines), so we can order what we wanted. We role played and practiced counting.If your child is new to cutting, there are some activities with just straight lines. But I would give them some time on other beginner books first and save this book once they get time to practice on others.

My son, not so much. He'd like more to do with the pieces. Also, I don't like how it has the adult cutting so much detailed stuff. Really??? I know how to use the dang scissors?! My son is 4 years old, too. He's in the "I want to do it all by myself" stage so I let him cut those things, too. So what if he cuts off a frog's head. He did it all my himself!

The book is printed on good paper. The tasks are very easy though and very repetitive. My 3 year old doesn't like it because it bores him. Things don't get much harder than the first few pages. The book is very long for that. If you rip out the pages and used them for several kids, that would work. But for one alone it's too boring to keep doing the entire (pretty long) book. We love the Kumon books. I'd recommend those instead. They have more diverse ideas and gradually build skills, instead of staying on the same level more or less.

My children are 3 and 4 years and I had wanted for a long time to have a book where they can have more structured activities. I bought the CUT & PASTE BOOK, COLOR AND FOLD and the COMPLETE BOOK OF PRE K. This book saves my time and money in looking for resources online and its already colorful and great for my kids to follow instructions. I read many bad reviews but I honestly think activities can be fun and kids just want to have fun so this a great book.

My 4 yo really enjoys cutting activities and finished the book I previously had for her so I picked this one up and I am very impressed. Great parent section in the beginning of the book that gives teaching/development info and ideas for helping your child grown and learn. Nice thick book with lots of colorful and fun activities. She wants to do this one all the time. A very fun book to help them work on those cutting skills and fine motor skills!

A must have for those of you who have a lil one starting pre-k soon enough. It is/was also a good workbook for my son who is disabled-he has "verbal apraxia"! If there were more of this basic design and by the same company, I would have already made a point to buy more workbooks! My disabled son is 4 1/2 and my other son just 13 months behind. This book was wonderful for them both. And it's awesome to be able to teach my children more pre-school skills that are a requirement before it gets down to the last bit of time left b4 the 1st day of a new year. There's no time like the present to start helping your toddler(s) learn the sight words (or Dolch words). My children's daycare owner was also very impressed with these workbooks! I will continue to search for more of them in stores, but I doubt I can find such a wonderful work book again. Amazon is the place to shop for these items so far. Having "Amazon Prime" is a benefit as well. It's hard to "beat" the free 2 day shipping! Work books such as this offer more help than realized. My thanks and hat off to Amazon! (Amazon Prime)Thanks for all you carry for children with "average or normal" ages as well as disabled children/people in general to work in these books!

Nice variety, colorful, and kept the kids occupied for a long time. One did a city collage. The other just wanted to cut. Heavy paper that helps with scissor control. Not sure what some people were talking about on there being pics on both sides and having to choose. That is not the case. My kids both just turned 5.
