There are indeed some of the connecting points between the story of Israel, the Gospel message of Christ, the implications of personal salvation, and the method of persuasion of others of that salvation that even well-read Christians struggle with. This book attempts to identify the distinction between each of these four categories and properly explain how they relate to each other.I do find it to be incredibly important that we not consider a person reached and to simply move on to the next person once they pray the sinner's prayer and accept Jesus. It is very important that they understand the larger Bible and how it all comes together. Some of the emails he includes in the book that he has received prove the need for some education as to the framework of the Biblical message and sadly reflect some of the questions I've been asked as well. If your people don't know what Jesus being the Messiah has to do with us being saved, or if they're asking if Jesus preached Paul's message, you would do well to spend more time teaching the actual content of the Bible rather than messages that build upon Biblical concepts your congregation isn't familiar with in the first place.The author understandably spends quite a bit of time trying to reassure the reader that he is not speaking against personal salvation or the evangelism process, he is simply trying to get us to stop and spend some more time developing an understanding of the actual life and story of Jesus, and the rest of the Bible that is a very important part of the context and why we need a salvation in the first place.He also spends some time highlighting that we are not done once we are saved and that there is a reason we are still here. Our behavior, actions, motivations, and routes through which we do evangelize and disciple others should be in keeping with what we know about Jesus. We are to live for Him in light of what He showed us. There is a lot more growth as a Christian that takes place after that conversion moment and too often Christians are allowed and even encouraged to sit in stagnation after that moment. If we really understood the Bible, it would not be the everyday car payments and such that take up 99% of our conscious awareness day in and day out.

McKnight does a wonderful job of working out an idea which has been proposed by several others pastors and scholars. This is the idea that biblical discipleship has all but fallen out of the mindset of the western church as an actual and necessary goal for those who would follow Jesus.This book is critical because it shows that the heart of the Gospel as understood by Jesus, the apostles, and the early church was a gospel which was all encompassing, beckoning the Christian to imitate all of Jesus' life and preach all of the gospel rather than simply to preach the plan of salvation. I value this work greatly as a pastor and as a denominational worker. We should be challenging our churches to embrace the gospel to the fullest extent in every way possible.

We have been teaching people they need to make a decision to believe in Jesus when we should have been directing people to follow Jesus. Of course you can't truly follow Jesus without belief, but after reading this book I think you can't really believe in Jesus without wanting to follow him. It's about far more than just deciding to believe in Jesus so I can be saved. When we teach people that Jesus is good for us because he saves us and then make discipleship (a whole-life following) to him a secondary aspect, we run the risk of people using Jesus as a mega-sized good luck charm...which is not really believing in Jesus. It's spiritualized self-preservation, which makes Jesus all about me, instead of making me all about Jesus.

Another way of putting it is this: the gospel is the Story of Israel that finds resolution in the saving Story of Jesus, and that story is about God’s work in this world in the people of God.The above quote from this very important book summarizes for me what Dr. Scot McKnight is trying to emphasize. I read his book twice because I wanted to make certain I had the answer to this this key question. What is the Gospel?The Gospel is a big deal! We must get it right! Catherine LaCroix sucked me right in and didn't let go until the end. Josselyn's story was intriguing from the beginning. Accusations of murder, grief over loss, the potential to find love again, betrayal, and second chances in unlikely characters--this book has it all. I was drawn to Josselyn and her plight. I was also drawn to her sensual nature and how she felt she might not have control over her body's reactions. I was right there with her when Adrien took her on the floor the first time. I was invested enough to want her to find her happily-ever-after. And I was upset when things weren't what they appeared to be.LaCroix's ability to tell a story is impressive, as is her ability to pull erotic romance into the story line. I don't typically read medieval/fantastical literature, but I'm thankful I tried something different. I think my husband is thankful I read it, as well. *wink*

I feel as though I have been taken on a whimsical journey, walking alongside Josselyn, a most talented whisper. I’ve enjoyed her varying exploits and tagging alongside her as she rediscoveries herself and the world about her. For her to have again what had been lost to her is a most precious indulgence.  It became an adventure I had not wanted to end, but knew that it must. It is a beautiful fantasy that has unseemingly occupied my thoughts as to what would come next and it did not disappoint. The writing is well paced and easily understood. There is love; emotional and physical, alongside a kind of fantastical warmness in the conversations of the characters and their interactions with another. As well as just enough corruption to tantalize your appetite.I am dragged into their dramatic scenarios and pulled along through their intimate encounters. *Author -Catherine Lacroix I am thankful to have been introduced to your work. It is both appealing and adventurous, especially to one whose fondness lies in poetry. You have made a fan.

The fantasy characters, wonderful and kindred Whispers, have taken us on a journey that most humans could only imagine. This story will keep you balanced between perceived right and wrong, corruption and emotional turmoil that collides with love, greed and hatred. An amazing fantasy novel that is well thought out and will leave you wanting to learn more, read the next story, and be eagerly awaiting the author’s future books.

From the moment I started reading this book I could not put it down, beautifully written, now I must read through Catherine LaCroix entire catalog. Beware, this author is addicting.

**** I got an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review. ****In the collection, Whispers are like a genetic mutation, but since it is medieval times they are like their own race. During that time not a lot of knowledge was known of genetic mutation. I thought that to have that in a medieval time frame was pure genius. I have never read anything like it, with that type of mutation …so that was thought provoking and incredibly fresh.The whole idea and concept behind being a ring is really interesting and special. It is a relationship, and marriage between three people with at least one Whisper. The concept also reminds me of a contract between a dominate and a submissive in BDSM. It is complicated but in a rather beautiful way and I don’t want to say any more so I don’t spoil it.I feel like as soon as I started reading I got rather attached to Josselyn rather quickly. I felt for her when things happened. There were some twists and turns along the way and I don’t know who was more shocked and upset, her or I. I can’t believe she was treated the way she was. I misjudged certain characters thinking that they were something that they were not then at the end turned my opinion around about them completely. I originally hated the one of the two and liked the other. While at the end of the book I hated the one character with a passion and loved the other with just as much passion. Funny how things work like that. All because of how they treated Miss Josselyn.I even talked to the Author about those two characters because she was curious to see what I thought of them at the end of the book and if my opinions of them changed. Which, they had because I got to see more of their true characters and I didn’t need to see which character was a good person and which wasn’t. I won’t name those two characters because it will be up to you to find out who those two are by reading the book and then commenting below. This is a great book and if you want to be taken into a new world that is set in medieval times where all is not what it seems then this is the book for you.

I've been a Koontz fan ever since his early effort "The Haunted Earth" over 50 years ago. Most Koontz books get an automatic "5 Stars", but a few of his in the last 10 years or so are great writing, but the plots simply do not grab me. Even so, I downrate "Ricochet Joe" as a book simply because it is not a standalone story. As an introduction to a whole new epic saga, it is very good, but not satisfying by itself. "Odd Thomas" was of course a similar intro, but it could stand alone as a great story on its' own merit. His recent full-length novel about the Hawaiian girl showed a similar weakness, but viewed as the first entry of a new series, I loved it."Watchers" is, of course, my mandatory favorite. After that, my taste points to "Dark Rivers of the Heart". But when I'm simply looking for a relaxing fun read, "Tick Tock" is my go-to Koontz story. "Ricochet Joe" has strong echoes from "Tick Tock" in its' unmistakable Koontzian humor. For now, that is its' greatest strength - I absolutely LOVE it ! I have great hopes for a long series of sequels.

A pretentious and complex novella. It is entertaining for a moment and for a low cost it is ok. However, i did not like it. Let me explain. It is a book that tries to innovate with aspects such as the concept of time, evil, moral dillema and such. But it tries to deal with all of this in a novella format (or even short story) so it does not feels detailed and it is difficult to understand (some things have to be read twice to understand what happened). Hence the pretentious. It tries to grab more that what could be easily covered in that size. Hence the complex. But on the same time it feels simple, gullible, predictable and basic at some other times where pace is slow and uninteresting. It spends about 30 to 40% on a guy picking garbage with a weird experience and then having ice cream with some girl. quite slow. And then all of the supernatural stuff and action stuff is really packed in very fast. And time travel and stuff like that appears unexplained.If the books cost less than 2 bucks go ahead, it is not a bad read. More than that, it is not worth it.

I have been reading books by Dean Koontz for decades. I wasn't sure this book would be up to their standard. This book was amazing. I had to read it from start to finish in one sitting. Dean Koontz still has it, whatever it is. He can still make me feel like I am in the story. I still HAD to find out what happens next. I enjoyed this book so much, I am going to see if there are any other new books. Also, I am going to go back and read all the books from the past 20 to 30 years. SO COOL.

If you have not read The Silent Corner or Whispering Room, I suggest you do though it's not completely necessary. Art Bell had a fantastic interview with Dean Koontz on parallel universes and his own personal experiences with them. I wish it were still available as it would be the perfect supplement to understanding the story. Pardon the cryptic review, but the story is excellent and fascinating in its musing on time and space.

The novella called Ricochet Joe was my first experience with the “Kindle in Motion” format, and it was worth a look but also rather underwhelming. The story itself, of a young man who finds himself in the middle of an eons-spanning good-vs.-evil struggle, is the kind of supernatural tale Dean Koontz can probably write in his sleep. It is disappointing because it so sloppy-seeming in terms of plot and characters. (Though part of that is driven by the shorter Kindle Single format.). As for the Motion option, it is underused here, with only a few illustrations that don’t have all that Motion in them. They are still very good bits of comic art, and they DO add to the story’s impact, but that effect is too limited.

In today's age of free Kindle books, I rarely pay for a book anymore. Dean Koontz is one of the few exceptions. As always with something written by Koontz. you know it will be well-written, well-edited, and well-proofed.Dean Koontz, one this generation's finest writers, keeps the hits coming with a novel (pun intended) approach. This Kindle offering has one advantage over a print book, the "Kindle in Motion" process where the books animation truly comes alive. I don’t believe in reviewers giving a detailed synopsis of the book. I feel that is the job of the author to get people to read the book and it is the job of the reviewer to give an honest review. Since I do not like to give spoilers, in a way, I cannot say all that I would like to about Ricochet Joe.The story is different from most of Koontz' "Dark Suspense" but that does not detract from the master story-telling within the electronic pages. As we did with Odd Thomas, we come to empathize and care for our protagonists. The story is fast-paced and filled with so many twists, even The Beatles would shout.

`Ricochet Joe` was a somewhat entertaining short thriller read, but nothing too impressive. The theme is nothing original and it lacks some elements of plausibility, but the book isn't boring. As a free short book (~1.5 hours), I don't regret reading it, but it didn't make me want to explore more the author or the story.The storyline is a mix of fantasy and bildungsroman, playing upon themes like good vs. evil, quantum theory and parallel universes mixed with magic. While the story is decently complete in itself, due to it's shortness it barely touches upon it's themes; but the book could be the opening of a series. The subjects are a little too complex for such a short book.I borrowed this as Single Kindle and it also had the Audible narration (for free). The reading experience from my smartphone was fine, but the narrator voice and tone was borderline boring. I don't pay too much attention on Kindle Motion animations, but they were decently good quality.
