Great fun! I love all of the Thornton Burgess animal stories, and have since childhood. I read them to my son when he was little, and now am going to be able to share them with my grandchildren. Old Granny Fox was a wise old fox with a lot to teach her impulsive grandson, Reddy. She does so within the context of the real life conditions that Burgess had observed in nature. And the lessons Reddy Fox (and readers) learn are never preachy, but taught in a practical, gentle manner. A child can laugh at the mishaps of Granny and Reddy while learning real life lessons about theft, gratitude for what one has, making do with less than ideal conditions, and kindness to others.I would definitely recommend any of the Burgess books for children from 3-8, and for older kids if they still like them. Always cheerful, always fun to read, always with a very gentle approach to teaching life lessons.

This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it. Plus, unlike many of these Dover editions of Thornton Burgess' books, it has honest-to-god original Harrison Cady illustrations.Harrison Cady did two sets of drawings for this title; 8 color ones, printed on plates, for Little, Brown, of which 4 were later used for Grosset & Dunlap, printed in B&W on plates. Then, Cady redrew those 4 as line drawings for Grosset & Dunlap to print on the text paper stock instead of on plates. Those 4 line drawings are crude by Harrison Cady's standards, compared to the line drawings he did for many other Burgess books. This Dover edition has the 4 crude line drawings. Some other Dover editions have the illustrations from the B&W plates, and it would have been better if they had done that for this title too. But kudos to Dover for getting it basically right for this title. If you like these illustrations, I'd recommend finding a used copy of the Little, Brown edition too -- mostly to get all 8 original drawings, but also to see them in color as Cady originally drew them.

This was such a wonderful read. The author dispenses wisdom to young people in that rare and special way that avoids making it feel like bad medicine going down."Old Granny Fox" is not the first in Burgess' series, but it isn't a bad place to start, either. Most of his stories, though loosely interconnected, still allow the reader to jump in at any point.Bear in mind, there are presently two versions of this Kindle book on Amazon. One of them (Old Granny Fox) is not completely formatted properly. That one is still a good reading copy, but due to the formatting, excises many of the witty sayings in each chapter. This version is the (free) one to get, although it also has none of the original illustrations. There are other copies of Burgess' animal stories with the artwork on Kindle, but none of them appear to be free. Most are only a buck or two, so if you enjoy "Old Granny Fox," you could still find plenty of the illustrated versions of Burgess' writings in Kindle format on the cheap.

My kids love Thornton Burgess's books. We have read many books about the creatures in the Green Meadows, Green Forest and the Old orchard over the last year. They really like all the different characters/animals in the book. All the characters come to life and have their good and bad traits, just like people. This book, like the others, are excellent for kids. These books teach the kids a lot about nature. I am amazed at the things my kids learn from Mr Burgess's books. Part of the story is discussing how its not easy catching your dinner every day, so there is talk about hunger. This has lead to the kids asking about how animals eat and get their food. The kindle edition seems to be missing some text though. There is one or two spots were Granny Fox's saying at the beginning of the chapter is cut out. This doesn't effect the story and my kids don't notice it. Unlike the Bowser the Hound book, where every chapter had a saying there are only a couple in this book. This is the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.There is also no table of contents for the book. Its a free book so I don't really care, but some may.

I read Old Granny Fox to my kids at bedtime, and its short episodic chapters usually left them wanting more, unless they were *really* tired. Burgess is a little pedagogic at times, but that doesn't detract from the clever foxes and their adventures.

A nice little Dover book that my grandson really enjoyed. He is 10 years old but I think aN 8 year old would enjoy it as well.

Another classic from Thornton W Burgess. I started reading the Mother West Wind books when I was in elementary school. That was in the 19-70s. The kicker is I still read these series of books and still count them among my very favorites. It is impossible not to be entertained and amused by these unique and loveable characters.

When I was a child my grandmother gave me a copy. I was so excited to find the book on the Kindle. Now, my grandchildren can enjoy the same lessons and I did. These are great stories to help young ones learn what is right, what is best and the consequences if the lessons aren't learned.

Miss America, by Howard Stern

Amazon.com Review

Stern's second memoir focuses more on his professional family than on his biological family, and those who listen to his syndicated radio program will LOVE the chance to know more about Stern's crew. If you've been dying to see Stern in drag, here's your chance. But he's still at his best when he's assessing his celebrity guests, trashing the Kennedys and describing his relationship with his computer. For fans of Stern's longsuffering wife Allison, there is a very funny description of her 40th birthday party, and how Stern came through for her and "her yenta friends.".

Terrible. This would have only been for fanatics on its release date long ago but now it makes pop culture seem like an utter waste of time. Bought out of curiosity and because it was marked far down. And almost no content on the Wack Pack (pre-Wack Pack mostly). When I prune my library, this will be the first discarded.

I am a HUGE Howard Stern fan & have been since 1993. I've read his first tome, "Private Parts" a handful of times through the years & enjoy it every single time. Now this book on the other hand is nothing like "PP". Even recently HS has said that he wishes he could rewrite it. I bought this book thinking that the 1st time I tried to read it was so long ago that maybe I didn't give it a chance. Well, I've read it again now, & the only thing I can say is that it was a tad better the 2nd time around. There is more insight into the on-air players & other staff that is interesting. Overall though, it feels like an empty read for a true fan. Just a follow up to the 1st book to make some $$. Stick with "Private Parts" for a funnier, more interesting read. This book is okay to keep in your bathroom & skip around reading certain parts here & there; a lot can be skipped. And Howard even agrees! :)

Good condition and I mean it’s Howard Stern he’s a genius everything he does turns to platinum so if corse it’s an amazing book!

Great book. Stern is funny. Wish he'd write another book

Meh... I love Howard, but this book is dated and predictable if you're a Stern fan. Save your money

Book condition and transaction exceeded my expectations. I am just really disappointed with the content and writing. Am a huge Stern fan, and wasn't expecting Shakespeare in this instance......Just fell way short of the funny I was seeking. Hardly the seller's fault. :)

sorry i got it.. an idiot

Everything you ever wanted to know about Howard and we're sorry you did lots of material

Our world is ending and people in the know must make hard choices. Interesting and fast moving.

I wasn't expecting each chapter would be a different point in time - with new characters - but after a bit I was hooked on the story and am on Book 4...My only complaint - when we go back to a specific date - the author re-peats a bit too much in getting us back to where we are in this part of the story - it gets a little old and a lot could have been skipped completely... I will say though that now - by book 4 - he does add a bit more detail to those same recaps and adds in a different characters perspective so I cant skip ahead anymore...All in all a good story and a good read once you learn the main characters and where they are in time... :)

Its an interesting premise and to begin with the intersecting time threads are intriguing....However there is a big frustration, the author often recaps on parts of the storyline to make sure we are following this complex narrative. This is OK at first but by the second book "Field Two" its becoming a bit annoying. Some parts of the story appear again almost in full to make sure we are following along. But the net result is the story is held back and after two books we really haven't gotten very far, the resolution seeming to be so far off that I felt a bit short changed.Do I invest in the third installment or will it plod forward at a snails pace in the same way? I want to know what happens but would be disappointed if we don't get there....I realize my impatience shouldn't be a factor but if you make it to the end of book two you'll "get it"

Entertaining sci-fi thriller where the fate of mankind is not exactly looking rosy. The threads from different times and locations all fuse together as you read on. Love that the Chelyabinsk meteor is brought into the story and how mankind has, on the whole, been kept in the quiet. And what an ending!Ray Smillie

Science does not make sense, or is made up on the spot. Nonsensical plot. Unbelievable characters and reactions. Strongly recommend passing on this.

As a sci-if addict staring at the age of 9, I loved chasing down the intersecting threads in the time line. The astrophysics used was delightfully accurate. If Asimov had a twin that was an author, I would imagine this book would mimic their family style.Immediately downloaded the sequel.

I had trouble keeping up with who and where what was going on. I look forward to reading the next three books. Thank you

The book is well written and interestingly setup with fictional twists to historical facts that we know of. Also the non-linear story telling is intriguing.Great science fiction read! Truly enjoyed it!
